In a couple of Sundays we are taking RiverChurch to the mountains. Every year around this time we have church outside and in some place besides our normal surroundings. A couple of years ago we had Church by the Pool, last year we had Church out Front, this year we’re having Church Up Top, at the Chilhowie Recreational Park that sits high above the Ocoee River. Its going to be a fun day, eating outside, hiking trails, worshipping together, and best of all water baptisms.
I particularly love this location. Along the way up the mountain there are amazing places to stop and look out over miles and miles of God’s artistry. Ever since my college days at Lee University, I’ve loved going up on this mountain. Every time I go I have a very similar experience. Standing up there, looking as far as my eye can see, I’m reminded of just how BIG God really is.
I find this place especially refreshing when I’m walking through seasons of uncertainty or discouragement. To be honest with you, I’ve been privately walking through one of those very seasons for a little while now. But today, as I stood high up on that mountain looking out over the beautiful Ocoee River below, and the rolling hills of Tennessee, and as I watched the tiny little cars drive by; all my concerns, discouragements, and uncertainties seem to disappear with the reminder that my Father is the Creator of all I can see. He’s big, He’s powerful, and there’s nothing He can’t see, change, breath life into.
My girls used to sing a little song that says,
“My God is so big, so strong and so mighty. There’s nothing my God cannot do, for you.My God is so big so strong and so mighty. There’s nothing my God cannot do, for you.The mountains are His, the rivers are His, the stars are His handiwork too.My God is so big, so strong, and so mighty. There’s nothing my God cannot do, for you.”
If you’re needing perspective in your life today, just remember that God is bigger than anything you are walking through right now. He’s big enough to take care of you and what you’re struggling through. There’s nothing He can’t do for you!
