When you walk through our doors, it sounds, looks, and smells like your typical coffee shop.

But can I let you in on a little secret?  We’re not just there to serve coffee.  We’re there to serve people.  We’ve been placed smack in the heart of the city, for a much larger purpose than just coffee.

Example:  Tim Brown

A couple of years ago, one random afternoon Tim saw Jacob, our General Manager at Cadence, walking past his park bench and asked him for a cigarette.  Jacob offered him a free cup of coffee up the street at Cadence instead and well. . . . the rest is history.

Tim walked in a couple of days later for his free cup, but he ended up getting so much more.  He found a family.  Our staff and our church family, over the past couple of years has stepped up beside Tim, and he’s never been the same since.  I’ll never forget the Sunday, one of our church members literally took his shoes off and gave them to Tim.

On Father’s day this past year, Tim went public with his faith, and we baptized him right here at Cadence that Sunday morning.

Tim’s health is failing quickly.  The doctor told him last week, that there is nothing else they can do for him.  Congestive heart failure is literally smothering him to death.

Until Sunday, my fear has been that Tim would die alone at home with his dog Patch by his side.  But after church on Sunday, a couple in our church essentially opened the doors of their home for him to come and live out his last days among people who truly care for him.

I wish you could see the small army of people that have surrounded Tim even this week. Families working tirelessly to help him get his affairs in order.  Others sitting with him, reading Scripture to him, praying with him, singing over him.  It is nothing short of awe inspiring.

He never knew that day when he asked Jacob for a cigarette, what he would ultimately get.  But today, there’s no denying Tim got so much more than just a cup of coffee.

We invite you to pray for Tim to be healed completely.  Whether by a miracle that would prolong his life, or the ultimate healing that will mean he never has to suffer again.  Either way, its a win for Tim!
