What’s Happening to Saturday Church?

This has been the million dollar question for weeks, at least in my mind and in the minds of a lot of our folks at RiverChurch.  Since Cadence Coffee has had to relocate, so has RiverChurch and our Saturday Church experience.  This has been the subject of one of my 2 a.m. mental overloads that I discussed yesterday.

The short answer is that we are moving with Cadence Coffee Company. Sort of.  We had our last Saturday Church gathering this past Saturday.   We plan to start back up on the last Saturday in June, June 28th to be exact.  The shop won’t be open by the next Saturday, and after two Saturdays, we’ll still be working all the bugs out.  So we decided to take two Saturdays off, and then start back up.  It was a tough decision, but it really boiled down to the lack of availability of space elsewhere.

At any rate, I’m biting at the bit to be back in the groove on Saturday, June 28 at 6p at 11 East 7th Street. (Directions)

The format will be different.  It has to be, at least for a while.  The layout of the new shop doesn’t allow for the big meals that we’ve done together in the past.  This solution is temporary, hopefully about 6 to 8 weeks temporary.  I’ll tell you more about what happens next, tomorrow.  But this time period of 6 to 8 weeks, gives us a huge chance to focus on intensive discipleship.  I expect that the absence of free food and coffee, might cause some people to skip Saturday Church.  But I also expect that people who have joined our worship experience for the purpose of truly drawing closer to God, will still be there, food or no food.

We’re taking a few weeks to look closer at what it means to be a disciple, to hear from some of our own people how they came to follow Jesus, and hopefully strengthen and grow a healthier core base of our congregation.  We’ve had so many people make decisions to follow Christ over the last ten months.  Now we have the opportunity to zero in on discipling those people.  Walking with them in their faith walk, helping them grow to a place of spiritual maturity.  I can’t wait for this to start.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us on Saturday nights, this would be a great time to start.  We may not have the big spread of food that we’ve had in the past, but we will be serving up some good meat from the Word and providing you with the opportunity to be involved in the process of discipleship in a unique method and environment.

Hope to see you there!
