The Open Door

open-doorI’ve had a song, a bit of a blast from the past, playing over and over in my head over the last couple of days. It was a song that carried a great deal of significance for me near the end of my high school years as I was stepping into my college years. So, yeah a little over 20 years ago. (wow i just felt really old.).

So here’s what the song says:

In the things familiar we find security
Resisting all the changes that days and years can bring,
When God decides to lead you through an open door
Inviting you to walk in realms you’ve never known before.

Beyond the open door is a new and fresh anointing,
Hear the Spirit calling you to go.
Walk on through the door for the Lord will go before you
Into a greater power you’ve never known before.

Hear the Spirit calling to wake the living dead,
To reach the huddled masses who cry out for living bread.
Arise, oh mighty army, take up thy shield and sword
For the Father lifts His golden lamp beside the open door.

Beyond the open door is a new and fresh anointing,
Hear the Spirit calling you to go.
Walk on through the door for the Lord will go before you
Into a greater power you’ve never known before.

Beyond the open door is a new and fresh anointing,
Hear the Spirit calling you to go.
Walk on through the door for the Lord will go before you
Into a greater power you’ve never known . . .

Where He leads me, I will follow.
Where He leads me, I will follow.
And where He leads me, I will follow
Into a greater power you’ve never known before,
Beyond the open door.

I wish I could even begin to describe the weighty significance this song carries. Like the whole idea of finding security in things familiar, guilty as charged. But the promise that God goes before you into a greater power you’ve never known before, WOW!!!!!

I was walking downtown the other day, and in a fluke chance I pulled on the door knob of an old abandoned building. I was so surprised to find the door unlocked, and the building open. Curiosity got the best of me, and I walked in. I don’t mean to make a simple chance moment seem more dramatic than it really was, but in that instance I had a sense that God was inviting me to walk through some open doors that He was unlocking. I could almost audibly hear Him calling me to “wake the living dead, to reach the huddled masses who cry out for living bread.”

From that moment a few weeks ago, to this one, I’ve made a commitment to God; If you open a door, I’ll walk through it. He hasn’t disappointed. I believe that over the next few weeks and months that more doors are going to open, and I’m committed to walk through them.

Is there an open door in front of you? Maybe its closed, but its unlocked, and God simply is wanting you to pull on the handle, to discover that its open, unlocked and ready for you to walk through? Walk on through the door, for the Lord will go before you, into a greater power you’ve never known before.

Oh yeah, and if you wanna experience my blast from the past, here’s the original recording of that song. Remember I said, it was over 20 years old. So just roll back in time with me for a minute or two. The song may be old, but the message is still relevant.
