Today marks the beginning of a new era for the Greer Family.  Today, we officially step into the misty haze of teenage years.  Actually, we stepped into it yesterday, but January 23 is the official birthday of my firstborn, my Princess: Raqueli Makenzie Greer.

I’ll never forget seeing that kid for the first time.  I was one of the very first ones to see her beautiful face.  I’ll never forget those big eyes, wide open, looking straight ahead, as if to say, “what just happened to me.”  She still has that same expression to this day, when she is surprised, anxious, or trying to hold back tears.

Yeah, so a teenager.  I’ve had people give me words of advice and warning.  “Be ready man, these are the toughest years yet,” or “uh oh, not the dreaded teens.”  But I have to tell you, I’m not to worried about this particular teenager.  She’s one stellar kid.  She’s beautiful, she’s smart, she’s responsible, but most importantly, she loves her Father in Heaven, even more than she loves me.  I wouldn’t have it any other way really.

I’m sure we’ll have our challenges; boys, curfews, clothing disputes.  But I’m also sure that this kid has her head on straight.  She’s kind and caring, tender and tenacious.  She’s gonna impact this world, you watch and see.

So Princess Raqueli, Happy 13th Birthday.  You’ve made it.  Now you can officially drink coffee!  I love ya.
